CANSLIM & Growth

Highest Ever Quarterly Profit

Highest Ever Quarterly Profit is a CANSLIM & Growth screen. It checks every NSE-listed stock against 1 condition computed from nightly data, after excluding heavily pledged promoters and very small market caps. This page explains the rule, each figure and its source. It lists no stocks and is not advice.

What it does and why

Percentage growth rates are relative — a 30% YoY gain off a depressed base after a loss year means the company is still far below its historical profit ceiling. This screener asks an absolute question: is this the best quarter the business has ever had? Record profits are not just an accounting milestone; they are evidence that the business has crossed a structural threshold — pricing power achieved, operating leverage unlocked, or a market position that no competitor has yet disrupted. In Indian listed markets, companies frequently show strong YoY growth for 2-3 quarters simply by recovering from a COVID or commodity-shock trough, without ever approaching their true earning capacity. The 'highest ever' filter separates genuine business inflections from recovery narratives. Discontinued operations are stripped before comparison to ensure the record is on the core ongoing business, not a one-time asset sale inflating the P&L.

What each figure means

PAT Latest Quarter (Continuing Ops, ₹ Cr)

profitLossForPeriod_latest_qtr - profitLossFromDiscontinuedOperationsAfterTax_latest_qtr, in ₹ Crore. This is the continuing operations PAT for the most recently reported quarter.

The candidate figure — the profit level the company needs to have never previously reached. Displayed in crore for intuitive comparison against the historical bar. When this number is also visually large in absolute terms, it signals a business that has scaled meaningfully, not just a small-base recovery.

High is better

Prior Quarters Max PAT (Continuing Ops, ₹ Cr)

max(profitLossForPeriod_qi - profitLossFromDiscontinuedOperationsAfterTax_qi) for i in quarters Q2 through Q28 (all quarters except the latest). In ₹ Crore. This is the historical ceiling the latest quarter must exceed.

High is better

Latest PAT vs Historical Max Ratio

pat_latest_qtr_cr / pat_max_prior_qtrs_cr. A value >1.0 means the latest quarter is a new all-time record in the 28-quarter dataset. Values between 0.9 and 1.0 indicate near-record proximity, which may be useful for a secondary watchlist.

High is better

The figures are recomputed once each trading day after the nightly compute. A stock whose figures are more than three days old is left out rather than shown stale.
