Long-Term 7yr EPS Consistency with Acceleration

Long-Term 7yr EPS Consistency with Acceleration is a Quality & Compounders screen. It checks every NSE-listed stock against 1 condition computed from nightly data, after excluding heavily pledged promoters and very small market caps. This page explains the rule, each figure and its source. It lists no stocks and is not advice.

What it does and why

Consistency over a business cycle is harder to fake than a single-year growth number — it requires a durable competitive advantage, disciplined capital allocation, and management that executes through recessions, commodity shocks, and regulatory disruptions. The Coffee Can philosophy uses revenue CAGR over 8 years as its primary filter, which catches top-line resilience but misses a crucial dimension: is the company translating consistent revenue into consistently growing per-share earnings? This screener uses EPS specifically because it incorporates dilution, tax management, and the full P&L into a single per-share figure that represents compounding value for a long-term holder. Seven consecutive years of positive EPS growth means the company produced positive earnings growth in FY2019, FY2020 (COVID year), FY2021, FY2022, FY2023, FY2024, and FY2025 — surviving the pandemic without an earnings dip is a strong signal of business durability. The acceleration overlay — requiring the 3-year average growth rate to exceed the 7-year average — ensures the screen catches businesses whose best days are now, not behind them. A company that grew EPS 15% per year over seven years but grew only 8% per year in the last three is decelerating — this screener filters it out, retaining only businesses where the compounding rate is improving.

What each figure means

EPS Positive Growth Streak (Years)

Count of consecutive fiscal years ending with the latest completed year where (eps_year_n > eps_year_{n-1}) and eps_year_n > 0. Evaluated in reverse chronological order from the most recent year. The streak breaks at the first year where EPS declined or went negative. FinEdge provides 8 years of annual data, making a 7-year streak fully computable with at least one prior year as the base.

High is better

EPS CAGR 7-Year %

(eps_latest_annual / eps_7yr_prior_annual) ^ (1/7) - 1, expressed as a percentage. eps_7yr_prior_annual is the EPS from 7 fiscal years before the latest completed year. Computed using the adjusted EPS series from FinEdge. Both endpoints must be positive for CAGR computation; flagged as not computable if either is negative or zero.

High is better

EPS CAGR 3-Year %

(eps_latest_annual / eps_3yr_prior_annual) ^ (1/3) - 1, expressed as a percentage. eps_3yr_prior_annual is the EPS from 3 fiscal years before the latest completed year. Must exceed eps_cagr_7yr_pct for the acceleration criterion to pass. Both endpoints must be positive.

The figures are recomputed once each trading day after the nightly compute. A stock whose figures are more than three days old is left out rather than shown stale.
