Ownership, FII & Promoter Activity

High Institutional Ownership (FII + DII > 25%)

High Institutional Ownership (FII + DII > 25%) is a Ownership, FII & Promoter Activity screen. It checks every NSE-listed stock against 1 condition computed from nightly data, after excluding heavily pledged promoters and very small market caps. This page explains the rule, each figure and its source. It lists no stocks and is not advice.

What it does and why

Institutional ownership is a quality certification: every institution has a research and compliance process that must be satisfied before a stock can enter a mandate. A combined FII + DII ownership above 25% means that multiple professional investment organisations — each with analysts, portfolio managers, and risk officers — have independently validated this company as investable. It is not a timing signal but a quality floor. Stocks with institutional backing have better governance monitoring, analyst coverage, and liquidity. This screener identifies the institutionally validated universe for further filtering.

The rule, step by step

A stock must satisfy every condition below. Conditions are grouped under the pillar they test.

Institutional Validation

  • FII Holding + DII Holding > 25

Hard excludes

  • Promoter pledge above 30% of the promoter's holding
  • Market cap below ₹500 crore

What each figure means

FII Holding (%)

Foreign institutional investor ownership as a percentage of total equity.

High is better

DII Holding (%)

Domestic institutional investor ownership — mutual funds, insurance companies, pension funds.

High DII ownership signals inclusion in domestic index funds or large-cap mutual fund mandates. DII investors typically have long investment horizons and provide price stability.

High is better

Combined FII + DII Ownership (%)

Sum of FII% and DII%. This screener requires this to exceed 25% — meaning at least a quarter of all equity is held by professional institutional investors.

25% is a meaningful threshold: at this level, institutions collectively have enough holding to influence AGM voting and governance outcomes. Stocks below 25% combined are effectively outside institutional mandates.

This is a historical, statistical measurement produced by FINOME TECHNOLOGIES PVT LTD's research harness on past data. It is not a prediction, and past results do not indicate future results. The universe is today's Nifty 500 constituents, so the sample is affected by survivorship bias. It describes how a screen's selections behaved in the past and does not constitute investment advice or a recommendation.

How often does the screen update?
The figures are recomputed once each trading day after the nightly compute. A stock whose figures are more than three days old is left out rather than shown stale.
