Ownership, FII & Promoter Activity

Promoter Buying + Strong Quarterly Results

Promoter Buying + Strong Quarterly Results is a Ownership, FII & Promoter Activity screen. It checks every NSE-listed stock against 2 conditions computed from nightly data, after excluding heavily pledged promoters and very small market caps. This page explains the rule, each figure and its source. It lists no stocks and is not advice.

What it does and why

Insider buying alone is ambiguous — promoters might buy to meet pledging obligations, to exercise ESOPs, or for personal liquidity reasons unrelated to company outlook. But insider buying that coincides with strong quarterly financial results is unambiguous: the promoter is buying while the business is demonstrably performing. This dual requirement collapses the thesis into a single interpretation: the business is growing, and the person who runs it wants more of it. The quarter result validates the operational signal; the buying validates that management sees continued strength ahead.

The rule, step by step

A stock must satisfy every condition below. Conditions are grouped under the pillar they test.

Earnings Momentum

  • PAT Growth YoY > 0

Hard excludes

  • Promoter pledge above 30% of the promoter's holding
  • Market cap below ₹500 crore

What each figure means

Promoter Holding Change (QoQ, %)

Change in promoter holding versus the prior quarter. Must be positive for this screener.

The promoter increase is the first required condition. Any positive change qualifies, but larger increases represent stronger conviction.

High is better

Revenue Growth (QoQ Year-on-Year, %)

Revenue growth comparing the most recent quarter to the same quarter one year ago. YoY comparison strips out seasonality.

This screener requires revenue YoY growth above 5%. Combined with promoter buying, it confirms that the insider is buying into operational strength, not into a hope that things will improve.

High is better

PAT Growth (QoQ Year-on-Year, %)

Net profit growth comparing the most recent quarter to the same quarter one year ago.

Revenue growth without profit growth could indicate margin compression. This screener requires both metrics to be positive — top-line growth that flows through to the bottom line.

High is better

This is a historical, statistical measurement produced by FINOME TECHNOLOGIES PVT LTD's research harness on past data. It is not a prediction, and past results do not indicate future results. The universe is today's Nifty 500 constituents, so the sample is affected by survivorship bias.
