Technical & Price Action

Companies Creating New High

Companies Creating New High is a Technical & Price Action screen. It checks every NSE-listed stock against 1 condition computed from nightly data, after excluding heavily pledged promoters and very small market caps. This page explains the rule, each figure and its source. It lists no stocks and is not advice.

What it does and why

Stocks trading near their 52-week high are showing relative strength — they have resisted every selloff over the past year and emerged near the top. Contrary to the instinct to wait for a pullback, research consistently shows that stocks making new highs often continue higher. The reason: a stock at a 52-week high has no overhead supply of trapped sellers waiting to break even, so buying meets less resistance. This screener does not assess business quality — it is a momentum filter for stocks that the market has been rewarding persistently.

The rule, step by step

A stock must satisfy every condition below. Conditions are grouped under the pillar they test.

What each figure means

Distance from 52-Week High (%)

How far the current price is below the 52-week high, expressed as a percentage. A value of 3% means the stock is 3% below its highest price in the past year.

Low is better

52-Week High Price (₹)

The highest price at which the stock traded during the past 52 weeks. This is the resistance level the stock is approaching.

The 52-week high is the ceiling. A stock repeatedly testing and holding near this level is showing accumulation — buyers keep stepping in before the price pulls back far.

Evidence

What the harness measured

No edge detected

We could not tell this screen's picks apart from the stocks it left out. That is an absence of evidence, not a finding that the screen is wrong; it is still a valid way to narrow a list by your own rules.

AI-generated plain-language explanation

Each month across 64 months of data we checked, we looked at whether the stocks this screen picked did better over the following month (21 trading days) than the stocks it did not pick. We score that from -1 (the picks always did worse) to +1 (always did better); 0 means no pattern. This screen scored 0.0063. As a measurement, the score is essentially zero. If the screen had no real edge, a score at least this far from zero would show up about 22 in 100 by luck alone. That does not mean the screen is wrong; it still works for narrowing a list of stocks by your own rules. This is a record of the past, not a prediction.

Questions

How is this screen calculated?

How often does the screen update?
The figures are recomputed once each trading day after the nightly compute. A stock whose figures are more than three days old is left out rather than shown stale.
