Ownership, FII & Promoter Activity

FII + DII Sustained Buying (1 Year)

FII + DII Sustained Buying (1 Year) is a Ownership, FII & Promoter Activity screen. It checks every NSE-listed stock against 1 condition computed from nightly data, after excluding heavily pledged promoters and very small market caps. This page explains the rule, each figure and its source. It lists no stocks and is not advice.

What it does and why

A single quarter of institutional buying could reflect tactical portfolio rebalancing, index inclusion, or sector rotation rather than genuine conviction. When both FII and DII holdings have increased substantially over four consecutive quarters — a full year of sustained accumulation — it signals structural conviction rather than tactical noise. One year of sustained buying means these institutions have held through one or more results cycles and continued adding, which substantially increases the predictive value of the signal compared to any single quarter.

The rule, step by step

A stock must satisfy every condition below. Conditions are grouped under the pillar they test.

Sustained Institutional Accumulation

  • FII+DII Change (4Q) > 0

Hard excludes

  • Promoter pledge above 30% of the promoter's holding
  • Market cap below ₹500 crore

What each figure means

Combined FII + DII Change Over 4 Quarters (%)

The change in (FII% + DII%) comparing the most recent quarter to the quarter four periods ago — one full year. A value of 6 means institutions collectively own 6% more of this company than they did a year ago.

High is better

Current FII Holding (%)

FII holding percentage as of the most recent quarter. Shows absolute institutional ownership level.

High is better

Current DII Holding (%)

DII holding percentage as of the most recent quarter.

High DII ownership typically represents significant mutual fund and insurance company positions — patient capital with long-duration conviction. Combined with a rising trend, it suggests the stock is being added to index or quality mandates.

How is this screen calculated?

The figures are recomputed once each trading day after the nightly compute. A stock whose figures are more than three days old is left out rather than shown stale.
