Ownership, FII & Promoter Activity

FII Buying

FII Buying is a Ownership, FII & Promoter Activity screen. It checks every NSE-listed stock against 1 condition computed from nightly data, after excluding heavily pledged promoters and very small market caps. This page explains the rule, each figure and its source. It lists no stocks and is not advice.

What it does and why

Foreign Institutional Investors — large global funds, pension funds, and sovereign wealth funds — do deep research before taking positions in Indian stocks. When FII ownership in a company rises for two or more consecutive quarters, it signals that sophisticated, well-resourced investors are accumulating. They typically buy gradually to avoid moving the price, so a rising trend (not just a high level) is the meaningful signal. This screener finds stocks where FII interest is actively increasing, not merely high.

The rule, step by step

A stock must satisfy every condition below. Conditions are grouped under the pillar they test.

Institutional Demand

  • FII Holding Rising 2Q is true

Hard excludes

  • Promoter pledge above 30% of the promoter's holding
  • Market cap below ₹500 crore

What each figure means

FII Holding (%)

The percentage of total equity shares held by foreign institutional investors as of the latest quarter. Includes FPIs, FIIs, and foreign portfolio investors.

A higher FII holding level indicates that global funds have already made a significant bet. For this screener, what matters is the trend — but the absolute level provides context for how much headroom remains for further buying.

High is better

FII Change (Quarter-on-Quarter, %)

The change in FII ownership percentage from the previous quarter to the current quarter. A positive value means FIIs increased their stake.

Questions

How is this screen calculated?
Each stock is tested against 1 condition using figures computed from exchange prices and company filings, adjusted for corporate actions. The rule is versioned; this page shows version 1.0.0.
How often does the screen update?
The figures are recomputed once each trading day after the nightly compute. A stock whose figures are more than three days old is left out rather than shown stale.
Is this investment advice?
No. This is educational material describing a screening method. It does not recommend any security and does not consider your circumstances.
